Restaurateur calls in sick, trial postponed
Restaurant manager Riduan Masmud has been accused of allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Sabah, Malaysia.

KOTA KINABALU - The ongoing trial of a 41-year-old restaurant manager charged with rape was postponed after he called in sick yesterday morning.

Riduan Masmud was reported to have been admitted to the hospital due to an undisclosed illness.

He was supposed to be in court yesterday, where his accuser, a 13-year-old schoolgirl whom he married after the alleged rape, was supposed to testify.

The girl was scheduled to testify in camera yesterday and today.

Riduan's counsel Loretto S. Padua said the court would decide whether to continue with the trial or postpone it to September.

Riduan was charged with raping the teenager in a parked vehicle at the Kionsom waterfall in Inanam near here at about 10am on Feb 18 this year.

He married the girl on May 7 in an effort to have the rape charge withdrawn.
