The task: To outfit an unmanned surface vehicle with sensors, computers and software, and get the vehicle to complete a course based on various maritime missions.
Students from 15 universities, including three from Singapore, took up the challenge at the inaugural Maritime RobotX Challenge held at The Float at Marina Bay over the weekend.
The event was jointly organised by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Engineering, Science Centre Singapore and Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Foundation.
The NUS team made it to the final with their creation, but students from MIT/OLIN College emerged as the overall champion.
