GEORGE TOWN - The body of a Myanmar national wrapped in blanket and placed in a wooden box was found at the rooftop of a two-storey shophouse in Victoria Street here.
The man, aged between 30 and 40, is believed to have been dead for at least four days as maggots were found on the body.
Three foreigners who rented the top floor informed their printing shop employer after they detected a foul stench from the rooftop.
Police found the body after the employer lodged a police report at 4.30pm yesterday.
"The body wrapped in a blanket was in a square wooden box placed at the corner of the rooftop.
"We found no injuries on the body and we do not suspect any foul play," said a police spokes-man.
He said the three foreigners claimed they did not know the deceased.
"We believe that he had died due to illness and was placed at the rooftop as his friends did not know how to manage the body," he said when met at the scene.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed the case when contacted. The body was sent to Penang Hospital for postmortem.
