SINGAPORE - A Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) trainee suffered arm and rib fractures after the United States Navy training jet he was in crash-landed at an airbase in Florida at about 10.30am US Eastern time on Monday.

Lieutenant Ephraim Lu Zhen Yang, a weapon-systems officer, was on a routine training flight when it crash-landed on a runway at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, said a Ministry of Defence statement yesterday.

"He is undergoing treatment at a local hospital," said a spokesman, who added that the 31-year-old is "conscious and in a stable condition". The US Navy is investigating the cause of the crash.

Lt Lu was in the backseat of a T-45C Goshawk flown by a US Navy instructor pilot.
