SAF General takes over colleague as Tote Board member

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Totalisator Board (Tote Board) will have a new board member in 2015.

Brigadier-General (BG) Tan Kok Ming Desmond, who is currently Director, Joint Operations & Planning Directorate at the Ministry of Defence, will be taking over retiring member, BG Chia Choon Hoong, on Jan 1, 2015.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Finance, BG Tan graduated from Victoria University of Manchester in 1994 with a Bachelor of Engineering on a Singapore Armed Forces Merit Scholarship.

The former Chief Guards Officer was also the Singapore's National Contingent Commander under the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

The Board Chairman Mr Moses Lee Kim Poo, and six other board members to the Tote Board have also been reappointed by the Minister for Finance.

They are Mr Linus Goh Ti Liang, Head, Global Commercial Banking at OCBC Bank, MD and Head of Asian Equities Threadneedle Investments Mr Ng Soo Nam, Eastern Health Alliance Group CEO Mr Thali Koattiath Udairam, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Social & Family Development Mr Chan Heng Kee, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth Ms Yeoh Chee Yan and Mr Ng Wai Choong, Deputy Secretary (Policy), Ministry of Finance.

The other three members who were reappointed in May 2014 to the Tote Board are Mr Kon Yin Tong, Partner at Foo Kon Tan Grant Thornton LLP, Executive Chairman of Sing Lun Holdings Ltd Mr Patrick Lee Kwok Kie, and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health Mrs Tan Ching Yee.

The Tote Board operates various gambling and gaming channels in Singapore through Singapore Turf Club and Singapore Pools. Revenues collected from these sources are then channelled towards community projects.
