Interested in touring the largest warship of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN)?
Go to VivoCity from today till Sunday for SAF50@Vivo, a grand military display showcasing exhibits from the three services of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF): the army, navy and air force.
Landing Ship Tank RSS Endurance will be docked at the Promenade at VivoCity for four days, giving visitors a chance to step on board and tour a military vessel.
Over the four days, 3,000 tour tickets are available for members of the public to ballot for at the engagement booth. This is in addition to the 14,000 tickets that have already been pre-booked by members of the public.
Out of this number, 5,000 participants will also be riding the Fast Craft Utility (FCU), two of which are parked within the RSS Endurance. Their 15-minute joyride will take them to Sentosa's Siloso Beach and back.
The RSS Endurance is the lead ship of its class. The RSS Persistence, the Endurance's sister ship, was deployed to search for AirAsia QZ8501, which went down in December.
Visitors to RSS Endurance will therefore get a first-hand look at what kind of environment RSS Persistence servicemen worked in during their time at sea.
There will be performances on board the ship. These include the Naval Diving Unit's Boat Physical Training, as depicted in the trailer for Jack Neo's latest film, Ah Boys to Men 3: The Frogmen, as well as others put up by the SAF Music and Drama Company.
Visitors to the exhibition can also view and engage themselves in other exhibits put up by the Singapore Army and the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).
One example is the new Light Strike Vehicle Mk II used by the Guards Formation. Visitors will even be able to sit inside the vehicles for photos.
Those who are fans of the Black Knights - the RSAF aerobatics team - will be able to meet these daring pilots in person at the engagement booth on all four days.
There will also be interactive displays where visitors can listen to stories by those who have served in the SAF in the past and present.
Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen will be delivering a speech aboard the RSS Endurance today at 5pm to commemorate the start of SAF50, a year-long exhibition which will travel to other locations such as the Singapore Discovery Centre and public libraries.
