SCDF firefighters put out early morning fire at plastic materials warehouse

SINGAPORE - About 60 firefighters were dispatched to put out an early morning fire at a plastic materials factory on Friday.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was alerted to a fire at about 3am in the vicinity of Fan Yoong Road.

Five fire engines, three red rhinos, nine supporting vehicles, one ambulance and an unmanned fire fighting machine were sent to the location.

The fire, about the size of a football field, was raging when SCDF arrived. SCDF said the fire involved a warehouse dealing with plastic materials.

At the height of the operation, firefighters encircled the factory with a total of 12 water jets, including using foam in selected areas of the factory.

The fire was brought under control within an hour and extinguished at about 7am.

Four workers escaped unhurt from the premises prior to SCDF's arrival.
