SCDF warns of impersonators selling fire extinguishers

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has warned that it has received complaints about companies claiming to be endorsed by it to sell fire extinguishers or conduct fire safety talks.

In a statement on Tuesday, it said that these companies adopt "aggressive, 'hard-sell' techniques" to pressurise the public into buying their products.

These sales personnel had shown the Civil Defence Emergency Handbook to give the impression that they are representing the SCDF, it said in the statement. Some have even threatened to issue fines to the public if they do not purchase the products, the SCDF said.

The SCDF said that it has not authorised any company to conduct such activities, nor is it involved in the sales of fire extinguishers.

The public can file complaints against the companies with the Consumers Association of Singapore (hotline: 6100 0315), it said.
