Schools in Jaipur to introduce surya namaskar

Following directions previously issued by the Madhya Pradesh government, Rajasthan's education department issued orders for every secondary and senior secondary school to hold a 20-minute assembly every day, which includes surya namaskar, meditation, prayers and newspaper reading in English and Hindi.

While education minister Vasudev Devnani said that the move was "aimed at improving the educational environment along with strengthening mental and physical fitness", schools run by religious institutions objected to the decision, stating that it was divisive to the nation's secularism.
