Bronzes for local softballers

The Republic's men's and women's softball teams both lost their respective games yesterday to settle for bronze medals.

The men lost 0-4 to Indonesia, while the women fought bravely before conceding a late run in the seventh inning to lose 1-2 to Thailand.

The Philippines won both their finals to clinch gold medals - the men edging out Indonesia 5-4 and the women beating Thailand 3-0.

Semi-final berth for shuttlers

Both Singapore's badminton teams are assured of bronze, after reaching the team semi- finals at the Singapore Indoor Stadium yesterday.

Both play Thailand today after the men easily beat Laos 3-0, while the women received a bye straight into the final four.

Billiards team lose to Vietnam

The trio of Peter Gilchrist, Chan Keng Kwang and Yeo Teck Shin were defeated 3-2 by Vietnam in the English billiards team quarter-finals.

Singapore ended the four-day cue sports competition with two golds, a silver and three bronzes.

Tan cracks mark by 30cm

Eugenia Tan became the first Singaporean woman to break the 6m barrier in the long jump yesterday.

The 19-year-old leapt 6.18m on her first try to smash Yu Long Nyu's 1993 mark of 5.88m.

She finished fifth in the event won by Indonesia's Maria Londa (6.70m).

Buy tickets for football semis

Fans can now buy tickets for the SEA Games football semi-finals.

Seats for the first semi-final at 2pm on Saturday will go on sale today, while those for the second semi-final at 8.30pm on Saturday will be available tomorrow.

Tickets can be purchased from the official SEA Games website, the official ticketing hotline on 3158-8080, at SingPost outlets islandwide and through box offices at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and Kallang Wave Mall.
