Second phase of registration of CCA instructors to start in January

SINGAPORE - Instructors offering enrichment and co-curricular activities (CCAs) lasting longer than eight hours but shorter than 20 hours per contract to schools can register with the Ministry of Education (MOE) from January next year.

It will be the second phase of the registration. The first phase, for instructors conducting such activities that last 20 hours or more per contract at any school, started in March this year.

From January next year, only those registered in the first phase can be engaged by schools.

From January 2016, schools can only hire instructors who are registered with MOE. This includes contracts that begin next year and extend into 2016.

The new requirement of registration was announced by the MOE in March to help schools better assess the suitability of instructors.

Instructors are encouraged to register in the first half of next year. They will be "holistically evaluated" based on factors such as relevant qualifications and experience, employment history and registration with a relevant professional body, the MOE said.

Information on application procedures can be found on the MOE's website.
