Seletar Mall set to jazz up Sengkang

For the first time, Sengkang residents will be able to catch a movie right in their neighbourhood, instead of travelling farther afield, thanks to newly opened The Seletar Mall.

The mall's soft launch takes place today, but it is already open to the public and has attracted many curious shoppers.

Tenants that are open for business include supermarket FairPrice Finest, department store BHG, foodcourt Foodfare and wellness centre Amore Fitness and Boutique Spa.

Other tenants, such as Shaw Theatres and fashion retailer Uniqlo, are set to open next month.

One patron who is excited about the new movie theatre is businesswoman Charlotte Wong.

"I'm looking forward to the opening of the cinema. In the past, I had to drive to Ang Mo Kio or Tampines to watch movies," she said.

Yesterday, new tenants were also unveiled at the mall, including home-grown brand O'Coffee Club - which opened its first gourmet coffee house in Holland Village in 1991 - and V-Force Party and Novelties, which sells children's party supplies and decorations.

The new additions bring the total number of tenants in The Seletar Mall to about 130.

The shopping centre at 33 Sengkang West Avenue has four storeys and two basement levels for shopping and dining.

It is connected to Fernvale LRT station, which is linked to the nearby Sengkang MRT station. The mall is also accessible to drivers, as it is close to expressways, including the Tampines Expressway and Central Expressway.

The mall is a joint venture by Singapore Press Holdings and United Engineers Development.

With the upcoming Christmas season and to coincide with its soft launch, The Seletar Mall has lined up a series of perks and promotions, as well as activities for the family.

Those who shop at the mall can redeem free gifts, depending on how much they buy. For instance, shoppers who spend at least $200 at the mall can redeem a free canvas tote bag.

There will also be musical performances next month at the mall's atrium, including a show by the Vienna Music School.

And for six months from today, The Seletar Mall will provide a free bus shuttle service to ferry the working crowd from Ang Mo Kio industrial estate to the mall and vice versa, during lunch hours.
