Senior Minister of State Masagos Zulkifli visits East Kalimantan

Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Masagos Zulkifli is currently visiting Samarinda, capital of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. He visited Balikpapan yesterday,  wrote the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement today.

SMS Masagos met the Governor of East Kalimantan Awang Faroek Ishak, Mayor of Balikpapan Rizal Effendi and Vice-Mayor of Samarinda Nusyirwan Ismail.

They exchanged views on ways to strengthen relations and increase cooperation between Singapore and East Kalimantan, including in the areas of tourism, business and people-to-people linkages.

Governor Awang briefed SMS Masagos on East Kalimantan's plans to develop its port, aviation and logistics infrastructure, as well as the province's efforts to promote tourism, agriculture, and environmental protection. SMS Masagos also shared Singapore's experience in waste and water management as well as development policies with the provincial and municipal governments.

He also met with members of the East Kalimantan and Balikpapan Chambers of Commerce and Industry as well as media personalities. They discussed developments in East Kalimantan and ways to broaden economic ties between the province and Singapore.

SMS Masagos is accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and returns to Singapore on Thursday, May 8.
