Seniors, shop and shape up at mall

Senior citizens now have an outdoor fitness area in a shopping mall for the first time.

Jurong Point Shopping Centre launched an outdoor gym just for them yesterday.

The facility features specially designed fitness equipment to provide senior citizens with a safe and engaging workout. The equipment has several functions, including making muscles more flexible, improving leg strength and balance, and massaging the waist and back.

The gym is open to the public and is similar to fitness corners in housing estates. It spans an area of 240 sq m and was built at a cost of $150,000.

Margaret Koh, who is in her 60s, was among those who attended the launch.

She said: "The equipment is elderly-friendly, conveniently located in a mall and right next to the train station, which makes it easier for us to exercise and maintain an active lifestyle."

The gym was officially launched by Cedric Foo, Member of Parliament for Pioneer constituency.

The gym was a partnership between Jurong Point, Young At Heart, an outreach programme for the elderly, and Pioneer Community Centre.
