Sentosa cable car falls at construction site; second cabin with engineer stopped

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Police were alerted to a cable car incident at Sentosa's Siloso Beach this evening at 4:25pm.

According to a SCDF statement, a new cable car cabin that was undergoing installation works at a construction site had fallen.

Four SCDF assets comprising one fire engine, one red rhino vehicle, one ambulance and one Aerial Appliance and Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were activated. They were on-site within six minutes.

A statement by Sentosa Development Corporation said that an empty cabin was dislodged, while another cabin was halted with a technical supervisor inside the cabin.

The cabin with the technical supervisor was later moved safely to Imbiah station after an assessment by SCDF and on-site engineers.

The technical supervisor did not require any medical assistance.

"This incident occurred on the line under construction, and is independent from the existing cable way system from Mount Faber to Sentosa," Sentosa said in its statement.

"We would like to assure everyone that the existing Singapore Cable Car line is unaffected and remains in operation.

"Sentosa Development Corporation is working closely with its contractor while the Building and Construction Authority is investigating the matter."
