Serial milk powder thief arrested in Hougang

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 27-year-old man suspected to have committed a series of shop thefts in supermarkets in Hougang, targeting milk powder.

On Oct 13, the store supervisor of a supermarket lodged a police report that several tins of milk powder had been stolen.

On Oct 16, the suspect's identity was established through leads from CCTV footage. He was subsequently arrested at his home at Hougang Avenue 8, where more than 10 tins of milk powder were recovered.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in at least 4 cases of shop theft from supermarkets in the Hougang Avenue 8 area, stealing over $1,000 worth of milk powder.

The suspect will be charged in court on Oct 18. If convicted, he may be jailed a maximum of 7 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
