Sex crime accused gets legal aid

BUTTERWORTH - An eatery helper facing four sexual offence charges involving two young girls has just been assigned a counsel through the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).

When the cases came up at two Sessions courts here, counsel Hadi Mulyana Citrawijaya Suyadi told the court that he had been assigned to represent the 50-year-old accused.

The accused, whose name is not published to protect the identity of one of the girls, had claimed trial to all four charges.

In one court, he is alleged to have inserted his finger into the private parts of an eight-year-old girl without her consent, an offence under Section 377CA of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 30 years and possible whipping upon conviction.

He also denied committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature against the girl's will, an offence punishable under Section 377C with a jail term of up to 20 years and possible whipping.

In another court, he is alleged to have inserted his finger into the private parts of a seven-year-old girl related to him.

He is also charged with committing incestuous rape with that girl, an offence under Section 376B, pu nishable with a jail term of up to 30 years and possible whipping.

The accused allegedly committed all the offences at a house in Permatang Pauh near here at night between Nov 24 last year and Jan 11.

DPPs S. Selvaranjini and Maziyah Mansor informed the courts that the chemist and medical reports were pending, and both courts fixed May 13 for case management.

The same man faces two other charges at the magistrate's court in Bukit Mertajam, which will be mentioned on April 15. He had claimed trial there to sexually molesting both girls at the same place, time and day.
