Shanmugam and US congressmen affirm bilateral relations

SINGAPORE - On Monday morning, a United States congressional delegation met Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam.

During the meeting, Minister Shanmugam and the congressional delegation affirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and the US.

Minister Shanmugam welcomed the US' commitment to continue deepening its engagement with the Asia-Pacific region.

The two parties exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the progress of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations.

The TPP is an investment treaty which currently has 12 countries participating including Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Australia and the US.

Both sides underscored the importance of the successful conclusion of the TPP Agreement.

The Congressional delegation will also call on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Minister for Trade & Industry Lim Hng Kiang today.

The delegation is in Singapore from Feb 15 to 17, 2015.
