Shanmugam in US for 69th UN General Assembly

SINGAPORE - Foreign Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam is in the United States from Sep 20-29 to attend 69th United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

He will be delivering Singapore's statement at the General Debate, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement.

While in New York, he will attend a number of meetings, including the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Governance Group and the Informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, and hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from various countries.

He will officially open the new building of the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the UN and the Consulate of Singapore in New York, which re-located to its new premises on June 9.

He will also be attending the Atlantic Council 2014 Global Citizen Awards ceremony to accept an award on behalf of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

The MFA added that Mr Shanmugam will speak at the launch of the Lee Kuan Yew Chair for Southeast Asia Studies at the Brookings Institution in Washington DC.
