She was a bubbly girl, says stepbrother

A Singaporean and his family were killed in a motorcycle accident in Batam yesterday.

Mr Chua Kam Heng, 47, a claypot rice stall assistant in Beach Road, died, along with his 33-year-old Indonesian wife and their five-year-old daughter.

Mr Chua also has a 21-year-old son and 22-year-old daughter from a previous marriage in Singapore.

His son, Mr Christopher Chua, a full-time national serviceman, said the police in Singapore visited him at about 11am yesterday to inform him of the tragedy.

"It's very sad. He left for Batam on Saturday night to pay the bills for his wife's rental house there, and this morning he died in the accident,"

Mr Chua told The New Paper in an interview at his father's rental flat in Marsiling last night.

"He lives here (in Singapore), but goes over weekly.

"I've also met my stepmother and stepsister before."

Mr Chua, who lives with his mother nearby, added that he has not told his sister about their father's death, as he does not know how she will respond to it.

He said he has yet to get the full details surrounding the accident.

"The body will be flown back tomorrow," he said.

MISSED

"My grandmother and grandaunt went over in the evening to settle the details."

He said he would miss his stepsister, whom he fondly calls Cia Cia.

"She was a bubbly girl who liked to play and liked chocolate. I played with her often," he said.

"It's very sad. She was not done with her childhood yet."

The funeral will be handled by undertaker Roland Tay, founder of Direct Funeral Services.
