SIA plane sucks up container
In 2009, a large metal baggage container was sucked into the engine of a Japan Airlines Boeing 747.

An empty container was sucked into the engine of a Singapore Airlines (SIA) plane at Changi Airport yesterday afternoon.

In a statement to AsiaOne today, an SIA spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying: "While taxiing into the bay at Changi Airport yesterday afternoon, one of the engines of a Boeing 777 operating as flight SQ421 from Mumbai ingested an empty container."

No one was injured on the ground or on board the aircraft.

SIA said all 227 passengers disembarked from the aircraft safely.

"As investigations will be carried out by the relevant authorities, we are unable to provide details on the damage to the engine at this point in time. Singapore Airlines will co-operate fully with the authorities in their investigations," said the spokesperson.
