SIA raises $2.5m for Community Chest

SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines (SIA) presented a cheque for $2.5 million to Community Chest this morning, at the end of a charity run.

The money was raised through two fundraising events - the SIA Charity Run conducted this morning raised $1.22 million, and a charity gala dinner last month raised about $1.28 million.

The donation and will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Singapore Government under the national Care & Share Movement, lifting the total funds raised to $5 million, SIA said in a statement today.

This morning's aviation-themed charity run at the F1 Pit Building, including a 10km competitive run, a 5km fun run and a Kids Dash event, attracted 13,000 participants.

Singapore Airlines CEO, Mr Goh Choon Phong, said: "We are most grateful for the support provided by members of the public as well as from our loyal customers and the wider aviation community, who all came together to help raise funds for those in need in the lead-up to Singapore's 50th birthday next year."
