Singapore government saddened by death of Vietnam's General Giap

SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has sent his condolences to Vietnam's Prime Minister Ngyuen Tan Dung over the passing of General Vo Nguyen Giap.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement to the media on Sunday that the Government of Singapore is saddened to learn that General Vo Nguyen Giap passed away on 4 October 2013.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has written to Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to express his condolences, said MFA. 

General Giap played a pivotal role in Vietnam's fight for independence.
