Singapore hosts 46th annual meeting of the Council of the SEAFDEC

SINGAPORE - Singapore, represented by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore, is hosting the 46th annual meeting of the Council of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) in Orchard Hotel from Apr 1 to 4, 2014.

The Minister of State (MOS) for National Development and Defence, Dr Mohamad Maliki bin Osman, is the Guest-of-Honour at the opening ceremony.

"Sustainable fisheries, fishing, and aquaculture are key in promoting food security. Through this meeting, we aim to harness the potential of the region and holistically address global issues on sustainable fisheries, and reaffirm our commitment to develop and promote capabilities in sustainable fisheries management and innovative aquaculture technologies. Together, we can ensure a continuous supply of safe food within the Southeast Asian region," MOS Malikisaid.

All 11 member countries of SEAFDEC (ASEAN countries and Japan) will be represented in the meeting.

The progress of SEAFDEC's programmes and activities for the past year will be reported and programmes and activities for the coming year will be proposed to the Council for endorsement.
