Singapore Mint unveils wave-shaped coin set featuring local marine life

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Mint today unveiled a set of four coins featuring local marine life presented in the unique shape of a wave.

The inaugural Marine Life Commemorative Coin Set is the first edition to the 'Discovery of Nature' series, and the first Singapore thematic coin issued by the Kingdom of Cambodia to celebrate 15 years of partnership between the two countries.

Singapore Mint added that the four marine species, the Rosy Fiddler Crab, Knobbly Sea Star, Estuarine Seahorse and Blue Ring Angelfish, were chosen to showcase the rich marine biodiversity and highlight conservation efforts in Singapore.

The reverse side of the coin set features the Angkor Wat, one of the oldest religious temples in Cambodia and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Mr Yip Pak Ling, Director of the Singapore Mint, said: "There is an abundance of beautiful vibrant marine life that remains largely unknown and we hope to change this by bringing the "Discovery of Nature' coin set to life through the combination of our cutting-edge technology and intricate designs."

3,000 sets of the silver coins retail for $300 each. Pre-orders for the coin set close on Dec 31.
