Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli will visit Cairo, Egypt tomorrow to attend the Cairo International Conference on Palestine and Reconstructing Gaza, followed by a working visit to Dhaka, Bangladesh from Oct 13 to 16, 2014.
The Cairo Conference is co-hosted by Egypt, Norway and the Palestinian National Authority. It aims to garner international support and contributions to assist in the reconstruction of Gaza's infrastructure, and help the Palestinians overcome their current challenges.
During the Conference, Singapore will reiterate its support for the reconstruction efforts in Gaza, and for the Palestinian National Authority's efforts to build capacity and develop human resources, said a press statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During Mr Masagos' visit to Dhaka, he is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Gowher Rizvi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Minister of State for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Minister of State for Power Nasrul Hamid Bipu.
He will also be meeting Leader of the Opposition Raushan Ershad and Chairwoman of the Bangladesh National Party Khaleda Zia. Mr Masagos will attend a dinner reception for the Singapore community in Dhaka.
Mr Masagos' visit to Dhaka aims to reaffirm the warm ties, as well as promote closer economic links and people-to-people exchanges between Singapore and Bangladesh.
He will be accompanied by Non-Resident High Commissioner to Bangladesh Chan Heng Wing and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Enterprise Singapore and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise.
