SINGAPORE - The Chairman of the Iran-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group Dr Gholam Reza Mesbahi Moghaddam is in Singapore from Nov 23 to Nov 28 with a delegation from the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Moghaddam has met Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob and co-Chairman of the Iran-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group Zainudin Nordin, during his visit.

This follows a visit that Speaker Halimah made to Iran with a few Members of Parliament earlier this June. Speaker Halimah commended the continued exchanges for its efforts to promote people-to-people ties and deepen appreciation of each other's culture and heritage.

Dr Moghaddam also met Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law K Shanmugam, and Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli. They reaffirmed the friendly relations between the Iran and Singapore.

SMS Masagos also welcomed the recent extension of negotiations between the P5+1 and Iran. The P5+1 is a group of six world powers made up of United States, Russia, China, United Kingdom France and Germany, that works with Iran in diplomatic efforts concerning the nation's nuclear programme. SMS Masagos urged Iran to seize this opportunity to resolve all outstanding issues concerning their nation's nuclear programme.
