Singaporean injured at Taiwan water park explosion

SINGAPORE - One Singaporean was among the hundreds injured during a fire on Saturday night at a Taiwan water park, according to a statement from the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei.

It said it is in touch with the family to render consular assistance.

"The Singapore Trade Office wishes the ongoing rescue efforts every success and the speedy recovery of those who were injured," it added.

Over 500 people were injured, almost 200 of them seriously, when a ball of fire ripped through a crowd who were attending a Color Play Asia event at Formosa Fun Coast water park, just outside Taipei.

Footage from Apple Daily showed crowds dancing and clouds of powder being sprayed out which suddenly turned into an inferno.

Partygoers, most of whom were dressed only in swimwear, were seen running for their lives and screaming.

The severely wounded are being treated in intensive care units at 37 different hospitals, reported AFP.
