Singaporeans get first close-up glimpse of the Sports Hub and its facilities

SINGAPORE - Although facilities such as the Sports Hub centrepiece, the National Stadium, were not yet open to the public, visitors still came from 4pm onwards to walk around the 35ha compound. They played games such as beach volleyball and floorball along its waterfront area, shopped at the Kallang Wave mall and about 6,000 people took part in a 'walk-a-jog' event.

SINGAPORE - The 28th SEA Games officially marked its one year to the Games at the Singapore Sports Hub with a slew of community events to have members of the public experience one of the SEA Games main competition venues first hand.

The Singapore Southeast Asian Games Organising Committee (SINGSOC) also announced the largest sponsor for the 28th SEA Games to date, Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel), with over S$15million in next-generation multimedia solutions and technological infrastructure for the Games.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, and Singapore Southeast Asian Games Organising Committee (SINGSOC) Advisory Committee Member, Mr Lim Swee Say, and Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Chairman, Steering Committee of SINGSOC, Mr Lawrence Wong, flagged off the "One Year to SEA Games" Walk-a-Jog along a scenic sunset 2km and 3.5km route around the Sports Hub to enjoy the view of the mega multi-sport structure. Over 6,000 people of all ages participated in the Walk-a-Jog.

Tomorrow, on 28 June (Saturday), visitors can experience the Sports Hub Community Open House and be one of the first to play at the OCBC Areana, try out SEA Games sports including Basketball, Taekwondo, Tennis and "Equestrian". Members of the public will get a chance to view the facilities and surrounding areas which included the OCBC Aquatic Centre. OCBC Arena, Beach Volleyball Court, and Kallang Wave Mall, and enjoy the various activities at the facilities for free.
