SINGAPORE- A sinkhole formed yesterday at around 8am along Commonwealth Avenue West road, towards the city.
It appeared near Singapore Poly -techic, a short distance from Dover MRT.
By 10.30am, when The New Paper team arrived, the sinkhole had been covered with tarpaulin sheets, with at least 17 workers around.
TNP understands that the sinkhole was 2m wide. Two lanes were closed off with barricades and plastic cones.
A Singapore Power (SP) PowerGrid spokesman said the sinkhole was formed in an area where an SP PowerGrid-appointed contractor was laying electricity cables for a project due to be completed in March 2014.
No one was injured in the incident and the affected area was immediately cordoned off to ensure public safety, said the spokesman.
