A specially designed "SG50 Cocktail" sofa has been crafted by British celebrity designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen for furniture retailer Courts.
The sofa evokes the "jetsetting glamour that has characterised Singapore's meteoric rise", says the designer, who also celebrates his 50th birthday this year.
He explains that he incorporated iconic elements of 20th-century design - such as splayed legs, a popular design trend in the 1970s - as an homage to the country's history.
The SG50 Cocktail is among 14 sofas Courts has unveiled.
Despite his self-confessed haute-couture aesthetic, Llewelyn-Bowen emphasises that the collection was made to be affordable, with prices ranging from $1,999 to $2,950 for a three-seater sofa.
Group furniture director of Courts Asia Steve Church also says the collection was designed with the Singapore household in mind, which is why all pieces come in removable fabrics and Asian sizing.
Apart from the sofas, which will be sold at all Courts outlets starting today, the retailer stocks a range of lifestyle accessories from Llewelyn- Bowen's brand, The House of Laurence.
