SJI International alumnus wins scholarship to Oxford

SINGAPORE - A former St Joseph's Institution (SJI) International student has been awarded a Jardine Foundation scholarship to read Classics at The Queen's College at the University of Oxford.

The selection of candidates for the scholarship is based on criteria such as academic achievement, leadership qualities, and involvement in non-curricular activities and community affairs.

Brian Theng joined SJI International for the last two years of his schooling, at Grade 11, on another scholarship awarded by the Peter Lim Foundation. While at the school, Brian won the 2012 History Prize and the 2012 Monash University Principal's Award.

He was also instrumental in bonding together the entire International Baccalaureate Diploma cohort, SJI International said in a press release issued today.

"He did this through the morning reflections, which helped set the tone for the group, as well as through countless presentations and small actions that helped the group remain supportive of each other and cohesive. These were entirely his own initiatives as he did not hold any position on the Student Council, nor did he hold any other titles," the school said.
