Snatch theft arrested

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 16-year-old youth who is believed to be involved in a case of snatch theft committed in the vicinity of Commonwealth Drive.

On Sep 25, 2014 at about 10pm, a 34-year-old woman reported to the police that her mobile phone valued at about $1,050 was snatched away by an unknown man in the vicinity of Commonwealth Drive before fleeing towards Queensway.

Officers from Clementi Police Division responded promptly to the scene and conducted a coordinated search for the culprit.

Through extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, the officers established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on Sep 29.

A mobile phone was also recovered from him.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to seven years, and shall also be liable to caning.
