SPH's birthday gift to S'pore

SINAGPORE- President Tony Tan Keng Yam admiring the drawing of Singapore's skyline, presented to him by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) as a 50th birthday gift to the nation, at the URA Singapore City Gallery on Sept 9. Behind him were (from left) Central Singapore District mayor Denise Phua, URA chairman Peter Ho, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong and SPH chairman Lee Boon Yang.

The panoramic artwork of the Singapore skyline was commissioned by SPH as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations this year. It is now housed at the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) Centre Singapore City Gallery.

The 4m x 1m panorama was drawn by British autistic savant Stephen Wiltshire from memory after a brief helicopter ride in July. He drew the Singapore skyline in full view of the public at Paragon over five days in July.

Dr Tan will sign on limited-edition reprints of the artwork to raise funds for this year's President's Challenge.
