The shooting drama at the Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday morning (Singapore time) resulted in a surreal influx of live reporting from celebrities.
The Bachelor host Chris Harrison, members of Discovery's Mythbusters gang and actor James Franco were at the scene.
Even the filming of the final season of AMC's Mad Men was apparently disrupted.
A Transport Security Administration official was killed and others injured after a lone gunman walked into the world's sixth busiest airport, which is coded Lax, and opened fire.
Franco, who was sitting in a plane at the airport when the shooting happened, took to his Instagram to say: "At #lax Some s**tbag shot up the place", following news of the shooting.
Mythbusters stars Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci were also caught up in the chaos, with Tory posting on Twitter: "Shooters in #LAX That was f***ing terrifying! ... Heard gun shots then everyone starting running for the door."
Singer-songwriter Nick Jonas also tweeted that his plane was re-directed following the shooting.
He posted: "Currently waiting on the plane in a remote parking area. I am safe. Praying for the victims of this shooting."
Harrison gave entertainment website omg! Insider a first-hand account of the situation that unfolded before his eyes. He said: "When I arrived, (the shooting) had just happened. I think the first responders were just arriving.
"Police were literally on their radios finding out and you could see some of them pull their guns and walk down the street.
"They were going car to car and making everybody leave and exit the airport, so I got on the sidewalk and walked."
The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder, 34, tweeted: "Can we stop shooting each other!!??Dammit! 3 days ago shooting in my neighbourhood. Now LAX?"
Dancing with The Stars host Tom Bergeron tweeted: "Flew 3,000 miles from NY. LAX is in shutdown. Now we're all walking."
Glee actor Mark Salling wrote: "Otw to lax and I hear there was a shooting at the terminal I'm going to. No Dallas for me this weekend, hope everyone is ok. I hate u LAX".
