KUALA LUMPUR - A 25-year-old student was charged with allegedly stealing a Nissan GTR 350 worth RM380,000 (S$135,000) from a businessman.

Muhammad Afif Qayyum Mat Sham, who pleaded not guilty, allegedly committed the offence in the early hours of July 8 at a petrol station in Damansara.

Dressed in a grey shirt and jeans, he looked calm and confident when the charges were read to him.

His lawyer Faizi Ceh Abu said Muhammad Afif was a second year student in the University of Selangor (Unisel).

"He is currently pursuing his second year in Technology Industries and has a future ahead. Spending time in the lock up may affect his studies.

"His mother can only afford RM3,000 in bail," he said while asking the court to consider the sentence.

DPP Norazlin Mohammad Yusoff said the charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code was a non-bailable offence.

Magistrate Ashraf Rezal Abdul Manan then granted bail at RM3,000.

"I am granting you bail, but it is your responsibility to make sure that you are present in court whenever necessary.

"Failure to do so would lead to the bail being withdrawn and you spending your time inside."
