Student claims trial to murder

KOTA BARU - A student at a Voca­tional College in Bachok has claimed trial to causing the death of a junior two weeks ago.

The 17-year-old, who was charged in the Sessions Court as a juvenile, stands accused of causing the death of Mohamad Nur Akram Zimie, 16, on May 12 at Form HB 205 at the college at 12.27am.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 30 years and a fine.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Alias applied for RM15,000 (S$5,550) bail but the accused's counsel Muhammad Hasif Hassan argued that his client's father was a general worker and mother a housewife.

Judge Mohd Yusuf Yunus allowed bail of RM10,000 with one surety.The proceedings took place in the judge's chambers as the accused was a juvenile.
