Student held over carjacking and abduction

SUBANG JAYA, Malaysia - A Form Five student has been detained for carjacking and abduction of a nine-year-old boy and his three-month-old brother.

Police have also recovered the car, thanks to a WhatsApp chat group.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli said the vehicle was recovered at around 8pm on Tuesday along Jalan Mawar 1, Taman Puchong Perdana.

"A woman had spotted the car and posted it in a WhatsApp group at around 4pm. Another group member went to the scene about two hours later and called the police after confirming it to be the stolen car," he said yesterday.

The key was still in the ignition. The woman's belongings were not in the car.

"Based on the description of the suspect given by witnesses and the nine-year-old boy, we traced him to a terrace house in Taman Puchong Perdana," he said.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested when police raided the house at 2.15am yesterday.

A penknife, a school uniform, a school bag, a sling bag, RM117 (S$45.40) and a wallet were also found.

Police are now trying to trace the woman's belongings. The teenager has been remanded for four days to help with the investigation.

On Tuesday, the nine-year-old boy and his brother were taken on a terror ride by a carjacker before they were forced out of the car about 5km from where the vehicle was taken.
