KUALA LUMPUR - A man who kissed his girlfriend's housemate against her will ended up being jailed for one day and fined a total of RM1,800 by a magistrate's court.
Syed Hassan Lal Gilani, 24, had initially asked the woman for an iron when she came out of her room in the condominium unit in Jalan Klang Lama.
Shortly after, he held her head in an attempt to kiss her. However, he ended up kissing her right cheek when she turned to avoid him.
The woman, who works as a clerk, rejected his request for a kiss, saying "no" to him three times.
Syed Hassan, an engineering student from Pakistan, immediately went back to his girlfriend's room.
He was arrested after the 24-year-old clerk lodged a police report on Sept 2.
Yesterday, Syed Hassan admitted to magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin that he had molested the clerk by kissing her on the cheek when he visited his girlfriend's condominium unit on Aug 30.
Pleading for leniency, his lawyer S. Seelan said his client had previously been arrested at the KL International Airport on Dec 8 when he wanted to return to his native country.
Seelan said Syed Hassan had been remanded for 18 days since his arrest and had been remorseful.
"He came here to further his studies (at a private college in Subang) in the field of engineering.
"Please consider his remand period and impose a day of jail as well
as a lower fine," added Seelan.
Syed Hassan, whose family members were seated in the public gallery yesterday, sighed in relief when the sentence was meted out.
