Suspect has outstanding charges against him

He failed to turn up in court in November last year and had a warrant of arrest issued against him.

While he was on the run, Joshua Navindran Surainthiran, 22, allegedly worked with two other men to slash Mr Liakath Ali's face at around 10pm at Arab Street about nine months later, causing permanent disfiguration.

Mr Liakath, 52, is believed to be a worker from Victory Restaurant, a murtabak shop at North Bridge Road.

On Sept 23, Joshua, Ramge Visvamnathan, 19, and Joel Giritharan Surainthiran, 24, were each charged with one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt on Aug 26.

Yesterday, the court heard that Joshua had six other outstanding charges against him.

CRIMINAL FORCE

He is accused of two counts of using criminal force on a policewoman. He had also been charged with one count each of using abusive language on a policeman, behaving in a disorderly manner, voluntarily causing hurt and rioting.

Two other men also faced additional charges yesterday relating to the attack.

Zackeer Abbass Khan, 45, and Koleth Navas, 29, were each charged with one count of criminal intimidation for allegedly threatening to injure Mr Liakath at around 6.45pm on Aug 22.

The duo are believed to work for Zam Zam Restaurant, which is next to Victory Restaurant.

They, along with Anwer Ambiya Kadir Maideen, 46, had each been charged on Sept 23 with one count of engaging in a conspiracy to cause grievous hurt to Mr Liakath.

A seventh man, Koleth Abdul Nasir, 41, was charged with one count of criminal intimidation by threatening to hurt Mr Liakath. All seven men will be back in court on Oct 21.
