Suspect nabbed over missing appliances from new flats

Police have arrested a 36-year-old man believed to have committed house trespass, fraudulent possession of property and overstaying.

Several police reports were lodged between Aug 18 and Sunday by home owners, who had found new home appliances missing from their new flats which were undergoing renovation.

In most of the cases, the main gate was secured with only number combination padlocks.

Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division followed up on the reports and conducted extensive inquiries and investigations.

On Wednesday night, while conducting anti-crime patrols in Yishun Avenue 9, the police spotted a man behaving suspiciously while taking a lift up one of the new blocks of flats.

The man was subsequently detained in a unit, and a search of his belongings uncovered items such as cash and mobile phones that he was unable to account for.

He was then arrested for house trespass, overstaying and fraudulent possession of property. Investigations are ongoing.
