Suspected armed robber nabbed

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted armed robbery, which occurred at Mount Emily Road on June 10.

Last Tuesday, a woman was walking along the pavement when the man rode his motorcycle up to her.

He pointed a sharp object at her and demanded her valuables. But he lost his balance and the woman ran away to seek help. The man then fled on his motorcycle.

Over the next few days, police officers managed to establish the identity of the suspect, who had left Singapore.

Yesterday, the suspect was arrested at Woodlands Immigration Checkpoint when he tried to re-enter Singapore. He will be charged today with attempted armed robbery and faces up to seven years' jail and at least 18 strokes of the cane if guilty.
