Suspected plastic surgeon impostor arrested
An increasing number of girls as young as 12 are going under the knife in their questfor beauty.

Jakarta - The South Jakarta Police have arrested JS, 34, for allegedly performing illegal cosmetic surgery.

"JS was nabbed on Monday in Plaza Semanggi, South Jakarta, while doing a procedure on her patient in one of the mall's toilets," South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Wahyu Hadiningrat said on Tuesday.

The police have questioned five victims and have confiscated medical equipment and chemical substances from the suspect's rented house in South Jakarta. According to the investigation, the suspect charged her patients an average of Rp 6 million (S$617) per treatment.

"The five victims, four women and one man, have suffered hardening effects [to various parts of their bodies]," he said.

According to Wahyu, high school graduate JS had been performing cosmetic surgery since 2013 and had convinced her customers she was a certified plastic surgeon.

She allegedly carried out the surgery in shopping malls and in the Blok M area of South Jakarta.

"The victims varied from businesspeople to private employees. We are still investigating to find more victims," he said.

The suspect has been charged with violating Law No. 29/2004 on medical practices and Law No. 36/2009 on health with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
