Teacher beaten up for defending female students

Chandigarh - A Punjab school teacher is battling for life in a hospital after being attacked by a group of boys who were stopped by him from harassing girl students of his school in Ferozepur.

The victim, Mr Dinesh Mehta, a teacher in the Dev Samaj Senior Secondary School, was attacked by around six boys with with baseball bats on Thursday evening when he was returning from school. This was a day after he objected to the harassment of girl students by the same group of boys.

The badly injured teacher was taken to the local government hospital in Ferozepur but was later referred to another hospital in Ludhiana in view of his critical condition.

Demanding strict action against the suspects, the principal of Dev Samaj School, Mr Sunita Rangbulla, said a complaint had been lodged with police. The station house officer, City police station, Mr Vishaljit Singh, said police are on the lookout for the accused. sns
