Teen allegedly murdered by maid

SINGAPORE - Screams were heard at around noon at an HDB flat in Tampines yesterday, and when police arrived, a teenager was found dead in her bedroom.

She had been stabbed in her torso with a knife. The suspect? Her family's maid.

The unnamed victim, 16, was one of two children living with their parents in a five-room flat in Block 856B, Tampines Street 82.

The family has been living there for more than four years.

MyPaper understands that her body was discovered in the 10th-floor flat by her parents.

They also found the maid in a daze.

The maid, 28, is believed to be Indonesian and was arrested by the police yesterday in connection with the murder.

The police said they received a call for assistance at about 1pm, and an ambulance from the Singapore Civil Defence Force arrived shortly after.

Paramedics pronounced the teenager dead immediately.

When reporters arrived at the block, police officers and visitors were seen entering and leaving a ninth-floor flat belonging to a friend of the mother.

The victim's mother was said to be inside that flat.

Police have classified the case as murder, but the motive remains a mystery.
