Teen arrested for scams on online marketplace Carousell

A 16-year-old has been arrested for her suspected involvement in several cases of online purchase scams on online marketplace Carousell, said the police in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 11).

The statement said that several reports were lodged since Sept 28 last year by victims who claimed to have been cheated after placing orders for slimming creams online.

"The victims had come across the online advertisement selling the product at attractive prices on Carousell," said the police.

But once the victims had transferred money to her for their purchases, the seller became evasive and did not deliver the goods.

Through extensive follow-up investigations, the suspect's identity was established and she was arrested on Monday (Jan 9).

Investigations are ongoing, Anyone found guilty of cheating may be jailed for up to 10 years and face a fine.
