Teen charged over ITE knife attack

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy appeared in court by video link yesterday, charged with slashing another youth in a lunchtime brawl at the Institute of Technical Education College West.

Muhammad Zuhairie Adely Zulkifli allegedly used a bread knife with a 35cm blade to attack Ahmad Nurthaqif Sahed, slashing his left arm and fracturing his elbow bone.

It is believed the two got into a squabble over a girl at the atrium of the Choa Chu Kang campus at around 12.30pm on Tuesday.

Muhammad Zuhairie is thought to be a student at the college while Ahmad Nurthaqif is believed to be the boyfriend of a female student there.

Footage of the fight was recorded by students and circulated on social media. It shows two people circling each other before the attack.

Muhammad Zuhairie was offered bail of $15,000, but this must be paid by his parents and he must also observe a 10pm to 6am curfew.

He was charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means. No plea was taken. He will appear in court again on April 8.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 15 years or life and may be fined and caned.
