Teen flees rehab home only to fall prey to rapist

MALACCA - A teenager, who fled from a rehabilitation home in Negri Sembilan with two friends nearly two weeks ago, was raped by a man who gave them a ride here.

Police found the three girls, all aged 14, hiding in the bushes near the Malacca International Airport in Bukit Berandam on Sept 30, two days after the alleged rape at a hotel there.

The runaway girls have since been returned to the home in Rembau, where the management lodged a report on Oct 2.

The suspected rapist, from Taman Seri Selandar in Jasin, near here, gave himself up to Malacca police on Wednesday.

State deputy CID chief Supt P.R. Gunarajan said the 37-year-old businessman has been remanded till Oct 15 to facilitate investigations and police were looking for the suspect's accomplice.

It is learned that the three teenagers had escaped from their girls' home by climbing over the perimeter fence at around 4am on Sept 27.

They then hitched a ride in a car with two men and were taken to an abandoned house in Rembau, where they stayed for a while.

The girls were then taken to a hotel near the airport at around 10am on Sept 28.

During their stay, the victim's two friends went out with another man to buy food and she was left at the hotel with the suspect, who called himself "Ayah".

It is learned the man panicked when she became hysterical after being raped and quickly called back his friend.

At around 9pm the next day, the three girls were bundled into a car and dumped at the bushes near the airport.
