SINGAPORE - On Thursday, Ryan Raj (right), 17, was sentenced to a reformative training centre for extortion and furnishing false information to the police.
Depending on his behaviour, he could be there for a minimum of 18 months or up to three years.
A district court heard that Ryan, a transvestite who called himself "Sarreka", had blackmailed a man, 25, with nude photographs.
He had met the victim on a chat website and they exchanged telephone numbers.
The victim sent Ryan some nude photographs of himself and arranged to meet Ryan, who offered to perform oral sex on him for $10.
When they met, they ended up just chatting, but he gave Ryan the S$10.
After that, they kept in contact on the mobile message service Whatsapp.
A week later, on Sept 24 at about 1am, Ryan sent the victim a message demanding S$50, or he would upload the victim's nude photographs online.
The victim didn't give Ryan the S$50, but made a police report instead.
The police arrested Ryan at his home the next day.
When asked for his identity, he gave his cousin's particulars instead, because he was wanted for absconding from the Singapore Boys' Home.
His lie was exposed while he was in police custody.
