Teenager killed in gunfight over bubble tea girl

TAIPEI, Taiwan - A teenager was killed during a gunfight that occurred around midnight yesterday in northern Taoyuan City, police said.

The 19-year-old victim surnamed Huang was shot in the chest during the fight around 1 a.m. yesterday in Zhongli City, Taoyuan that involved two groups of people, the police said.

Huang was immediately sent to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Another two teenagers, a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, were also injured during the gunfight, police said.

The former was shot in the right shoulder, and the latter in his foot. They were both undergoing emergency treatment in hospitals as of press time.

The police said the two groups of people were allegedly fighting over a waitress working at a local bubble tea shop.

During negotiations, one group took out firearms to shoot at the others.

According to surveillance camera footage, there were more than 10 vehicles at the site when the shooting occurred. Nine bullet casings were also found at the scene.

The police pledged that it will conduct thorough check on each of the car plates to identify possible suspects.
